Do The Copyright Laws Apply To Music from A Deceased Creator?

I work for an educational Continuing Ed Provider. I was creating a tutorial in Powerpoint concerning the use of our website and I wanted to add some music to it to make it a more pleasant experience. I read through your copyright laws and had one question: “Does the law still apply if the song creator is deceased?” If so, how would our company get permission to use the song in our presentation? We do not sell this product; it is simply a customer service tool to help students that are new to our site. I can also lock the music file so that individuals who receive our tutorial cannot copy the music. Thanks for your help.

Yes, they still apply. Even John Lennon's work is protected by copyright. You must do a copyright search to determine who now holds the rights. Susu
