Where can I can get a release form for my music, to obtain sole ownership of any and all contributions to the recordings, for hassle-free negotiations

I understand that to sign certain recording and/or contracts for my songs there have to be signed releases from all parties that contribute to any recordings, as in other musicians or possibly even engineers that may contribute to such music on a technical and/or creative basis. Would such release forms have to be notarized?

I don't think you understand my situation; I'm an independent songwriter who does not as yet play out my own songs. I'm trying to establish myself with my recording first, to use as my calling card, but before I record anything with an engineer and/or other musicians I need to clarify my position to them so I don't run into any hassles later about who owns the recordings, even though I pay them by check so I have cleared receipts of these transactions. Now, are there standard release forms for this situation that I could download, or can I call someone to order them, or do I need to see a lawyer about this? And would any such forms have to be notarized?

It is always best to consult a music or entertainment attorney to save any future hassles. A couple of dollars spent now(whether you feel you have the finances to do it or not), may save many dollars in the future.

As for the contracts/forms you are looking for, if you simply search "music contracts" online, you will find many sources for the exact forms you are looking for. Yes, many are downloadable.
