Child Support Question

I separated from My ex husband Jan 3, 2007. We finalized it on June 13th. I have been receiving child support monthly. Do I have to claim the child support as income. If so, from what point do I have to count it?

Yes, you have to claim child support as income. and you would count anything that you got from him in 2007.

Child Support is NOT taxable income. If you are the custodial parent receiving child support you do not have to claim this as income on your tax return. If you are the non-custodial parent you can not claim as a deduction child support paid to the custodial parent. Trust me I know.

NO you do NOT claim child support on your taxes or as part of your income. I have received child support for 8 years so you can count on my answer and mscook's answer to be 100% correct.
