What can we do

We have a 20 year old son, who can't find a job and has lost jobs because he failed drug test,he's not in trouble with the law, and we can't seem to get through to him, is there any shelters that take people in and help them get a job and get on there own.

Your son is perfectly capable. He doesn't need a shelter to help him find a job. If he's not in any trouble, then he pretty much just needs to get off drugs for good. Once he can pass a drug test, he will be able to get a job.

Put that young man in a serious rehab program..in house if possible. Just because he is not in trouble with the law now doesn't mean things will remain that way if he is involved in the drug world.
NOt only is he jeopardizing employment but also his health and self value, family and friend relationships.........don't wait...do it today.

I have 3 sons. Sounds like time for tough love. I'm not condoning drug use. How is it he has/gets drugs with no job? Charge him rent utilities etc. If he doen't pay out he goes. IT's not your problem where he goes. Stop being an enabler. I have done it with 2 of my oldest, at different times. They go stay with a friend, and usually end up coming back, but when they return. New rules and they pay their way when they're here. food utilities rent. They get a free ride here if in school or turn 18. after that they pay (and follow house rules) or GO. Once they go, the rules all change. Remember it is YOUR house and they need to respect you and your property. If you haven't done any of this. it's still just a free ride. Get him out change the rules and let him back if you wish. STOP feeling sorry for him, make him grow up. The extent of the drug problem is an issue needing to be addressed. I promise if you think of all the kids his age you know. a very FEW at best are getting the same free ride. Maturity comes at different times for different kids. Ask yourself, Am I doing his laundry? cooking his meals? Let go MOMMY, those days are over.

There are places like Gateway Foundation, Threshold or Job Core that can assist you with your son. But regardless what you do is all up to him. He has too know that you still love him no matter what. But you will not allow him to continue to do drugs and come and go as he pleases. Setting goals that are obtainable so he can get a feel for what it's like to succeed. Nothing beats success like success. Use the crawl, walk and run phases with him. Once he gets it and know that you've got his back he will come around.

Well first of all he is not going to get a job if he is failing his drug test. He is 20 years old and is not showing any responiably. You can want him to work and get on his own two feet but it a never happen until he gets help getting off drugs. He would need a rehab to get off drugs, shelters are not going to provide for anyone that is on drugs. If he thinks he can live off someone parents family friends ect, he will never make it on his own.
