Recommended doses can be found here-
http://www.vetinfo4dogs.com/daspirin.html
However, you should really consider the reasons for trying to treat your dog at this juncture. Is it for you or the dog? What do you truly feel is the dogs quality of life? According to this site-
http://www.all-about-yorkshire-terriers.com/lifespanofyorkshireterrier s.html
your dog has lived a full life. Please don't let it suffer. Too many folks refuse to have a dog put down because they think that would be cruel. For the wrong reasons, it would be. The animal can't tell you what it wants. The responsibility for this point in the dogs life has always been in your hands. Make the right choice, however painful it might be for you.

Ask the vet if Rimidyll or Deramaxx might work better. I was told by a vet not to give my dog aspirin.

What you need to do is take him to a vet and see what they say .they might tell you to put him down to end all his pain and suffring. see i am a animal lover too and i had a cat with a simular problem ok so i know how you feel.

I would talk to the vet and ask them what they say. Aspirin may be to much for the dog. If you consider 1 aspirin is enough for 1 small child and a yorkie is much smaller then that.

My 12 yr old rott had arthrithis so bad and we gave him deramax, as at that age aspirin really upset his stomache and as a daily routine will cause more stomache problems, please take him to the vet. sometimes dogs have more problems than we think. When I thought my rotts arthritis got so bad I took him in and he was filled with cancer. Dogs have a way of hiding their pain from their loved ones and he may be in more pain than you think. I did the humane thing and put my dear old boy down. good luck to you my friend.

Thanks to all of you who responded to my question about my Yorkie. He has been to the vet and the vet said as old as he is it wouldn't hurt him now. I know i probably should put him down but he seems so content and we are crazy over each other and I just don't want to have to make that kind of decision. I had a cat that was 20 yrs old and had cancer of the mouth. The vet said he would starve in a few days so I knew I had to put him down but my little dog just seems really content. I make one aspirin last a few days in a syringe and give him a squirt every other day and he doesn't seem to be in pain. I just keep praying that I will know in my heart when it's time. Thank you all though!

Any asprin you give him make it baby asprin it is buffered and wont upset his tummy ask your vet how many mg. or grains he can have a day remember a dog generaly does not complain about constant pain only sharp ones ===i know this is hard for you and the vet has left it up to you but the time is comming and you must prepare for it and you have done everything you possible can to make his last days comfortable ===but it is now time to decide what is best for him === i say this because i once waited to long to a point where i had to manually express the blatter and intestines which was very painful to the ainimal [he had spinal leasions which paralized him ] it still bothers me for waiting to long

Aspirin is not good for any dogs if taken too long. I am not a vet and therefore cannot give you a dosage recommendation. I understand that you want to ease his discomfort. Is it possible that you ask your veterinarian about Rimadyl, Tramadol or Metacam? These are all pain medications in one sense or another. You would probably be asked to have some simple blood tests performed first before starting any of those as some can cause some liver problems. Good luck, and please consult with your Vet.
