Sick pet

My pet has diarrea and vomiting, I took him to the vet, they found that he has an infection and said he should be hospitalized but I can't affort it. Then he prescribed an antibiotic. Hes taking it but now he not eating for 4 days already and has lost weight. He's vomiting less but not eating, he only drinking water. Should I take him to the hospital or continue with the antibiotic to complete the 7 days. (he's in his 4 day). By the way he is 14 yrs old. I don;t want my pet to die what should I do.

Your best bet would be to take him back to the vet check for a local well pet or a low income hospital in your area they should be able to help you also ask your vet if they have a payment plan you care credit which is a credit card that you can charge his hospital fees on and you have 5 months to pay it back good luck!

Explain to your vet your situation - he or she should be able to tell you that your pet needs additional care (that the vet is either willing to arrange a payment plan or can refer you to another clinic who will), or if he thinks it is safe enough to play the waiting game or try something else at home. Only he knows how bad the infection was, but if your pet still isn't eating I'd be concerned, as its much harder to bounce back when you don't have the right nutrients and calories on board. You may also ask him about Nutrical or a "hospital food" that you can try for him to help him get some energy. Let your vet know how your pet feels - is he lethargic, or just as energetic as before? This will also give him clues to help decide what to do for you and your pet. Best wishes!

I would talk to the Vet again. I would not wait it out. It is better to be safe than sorry and it is not good for your dog to go that long without food. They are going to get weaker and weaker. You need to do something as quick as possible. That many days with medication and not getting better is not a good sign.

I agree, definately get him back to the vet. Try feeding him plain boiled chicken mixed with boiled rice when our dog had a sickness bug she would eat that also try some plain scrambled egg

I would recommend calling the veterinarian to see if the antibiotic can be changed. Alot of antibiotics can cause inappetance and vomiting. On a dog that old, bloodwork is definitely needed. If they have not offered, you can try applying for care credit, which is a low to no interest medical credit card. Alot of veterinarians are starting to accept this as opposed to credit cards. If you do not qualify ( you can find out right online by going to www.carecredit.com) then definitely call to see if they have any other options, and if they or another clinic that they might know might be willing to work with you. Good luck and I hope that your dog feels better soon.
