Acute liver enlargment can be caused by numerous things, including:

Toxins e.g., thiacetarsamide, anticonvulsants

Aflatoxin, bacterial endotoxin, blue green algae

Bacterial- Leptospira, Salmonella, Clostridia

Viral- adenovirus I (ICH), canine herpes

Toxoplasmosis

Dirofilariasis—caval syndrome

Acute pancreatitis

Acute haemolytic anaemia

Heat stroke

Surgical hypotension or hypoxia

Trauma

The best source to help you determine long term effects, treatment, and prognosis is your vet. Your vet should be happy to explaine to you what he/she thinks may be the cause, treatment options, and projected outcomes. Good Luck.
