I would watch my animal while its outside cause eating those things can be really hazardous to your animals health. I would only use a muzzle if its aggressive, not as a device to keep them from chewing stuff.

If your dog is persistant about eating things he/she shouldn't, a standard muzzle won't help because they are designed to allow a dog to still eat and drink, but not open the jaw wide enough to get a good bite on you. You will want analize your dogs diet and make sure there isn't something he/she is lacking, and then try some behavioral modifications, such as using a shake can or squirt bottle with a firm "NO" when your dog attempts to eat these things. Providing good quality chew toys should help as well. If none of these things help, there are "cage" or Basket type muzzles that you can use when your dog is outside that will prevent him/her from chewing on things.

My dog has and will eat anything! There are a lot of behavioral problems with a dog eating things, especially when you are not home. I would suggest some training. My dog recently had surgery because of her eating problems, to remove a metal object stuck in her intestine. I am going to use a basket muzzle on her when we are not home. These allow the dog to pant and drink like normal, though they do not allow the dog to eat anything.
