My shihtzu went into the woods and didn't come back.

My dog is lost. He ran off in the woods and did not return. It has been 12 hours. I have called & whistled for hours. I have ridden around the area covering miles-no sign of him. I can't figure out what happened to him. I have had him for 7 years-nothing like this has ever happened before.I posted signs in the area. Do you have any advice? Thanks

Forest are not a good place for small dogs is it a small wooded area or a large forest if you are lucky someone found him and gives him a good home or notify local spca i wish you a lot of luck and hope he returns

Thanks for your response. Oscar came back after 13 hours. Have no idea where he went-he was not in any different shape than when he left. I guess he went on a little excursion. I had a chip put in-can't stand that pressure again. Thanks again.

I didn't want to alarm you or be doom and gloom forest are full of animals that view your dog as simply a meal--- birds of prey owls , large hawks and eagles plus coyotes ,wolves large cats and bears ---where i live small dogs are subject to the air attacks of large red tail hawks large owls and a few eagles will snatch them out of your yard generally it is the small breeds however please be careful around wooded areas
