Do pythons make good pets?

My neighbor told me yesterday he was thinking about importing a python as a pet. I told him it might not be the best idea to have something like that as a pet because of how large they can get and how much they have to eat once they get larger.

Is there any other arguments or things I should tell him sway him away from getting it, and maybe just getting a garder snake instead?

With pets I think you should always start small. If your friend has never owned a snake before, try a smaller snake and then move up to a python if you really enjoy it. Garder snakes can't choke you to death in your sleep, well I guess they could but they would have to be more creative!
