How do I take care of an injured eastern garter snake?

My younger sibling found a snake in the woods today with his friend, and he picked it up with his hands. His friend got alarmed and hit the snake once with a bamboo stick. They brought it to me and I identified it as an Eastern Garter Snake. The place where it was hit is visibly swollen. It is still alive. How do I take care of it?

I think you should immedaitely take the snake to the vet hospital.

Thank you for answering but what ended up happening was that we put it into a terrarium and left it alone for awhile, and when we checked on it in 30 minutes, it was already getting a lot better. By the time 2 hours passed, the swelling had gone down and it was actually quite agile so we let it go in the woods where we found it. I hope it's happy.
