Where can I buy a pet monkey? Are they hard to get and do any states have any laws or rules against pet monkey's?

I strongly advocate against monkeys as pets, but if you are at all seriouse about this, please check the two sites listed below.

Check with your local human society, spca, or animal control unit to find out the laws in your area.

I do believe there are laws on having exotic pets. Not sure where monkeys fall, or if there are even different laws for monkeys versus chimps versus apes.

I knew one guy in California whose parents had four or five monkies. Was sort of cool, but monkies really have their own personalities and can be a lot more work than you might think. If you are not fully in it as a completely dedicated animal lover you might want to reconsider.

I do think monkies have the first 5 minute "cool" effect. However, I would not want to take care of a monkey. Also, they typicially are caged I believe, though when around you can let them out. Never understood this, beacause one of the yonger monkies was usually out when most others were in cages in the back yard. This was more than 15 years ago now, so don't completely recall exactly what types they were.

Something a bit more sensible if you just want the look of a monkey is a SugerGlider. http://www.sugarglider.com/ They are cute, easy to care for, affectionate, playfull and look just like a little monkey (they are a marsupial - not a monkey)
