Absolutely. I feel that we should drill here, drill now, and drill everywhere. We are far to reliant on foreign sources of oil. Depending on these third world companies who don't have our best interests at heart is a very bad thing.

My short answer is "Yes," I do think that oil companies should be allowed to drill close to the coastline. And honestly, my reasons exactly match Tex's answers.

The long answer is that I do think that we should drill, but that we should have some serious regulations in this particular area. I have never been an active environmentalist, but this oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico is simply unacceptable. I think that BP should have had a back up plan, and their back up plan should have had a back up plan.

We make our children run through Lock Down drills in school, we should have similar drills to ensure the safety while drilling for oil.

Long term, however, I think that we should look for alternative forms of energy. However, in the short term, this isn't a viable solution. Perhaps, while we drill for oil safely here, we can switch our cars to the more environmentally friendly form of diesel. Long term, maybe we can switch to electric cars or biofuel.

Thank you for asking.

Yes, oil companies should be allowed to continue drilling for oil. As far back as I can remember, there have been oil spills. Most of the oil spills resulted in about 38 million gallons to 240-460 millions gallons deliberately released into the Persian Gulf by Iraq. Unfortunately, many lives have been lost too.

However, the United States depend too heavily on other countries for oil. We need to continue off shore drilling if possible/or find alternative sources of energy.

Nope, not at all, oil is a primitive technology, as it keeps man kind in a primitive state of mind, all together. We should not allow, big business, to control the outflow of technology. I assure you they intend, to suck up every drop of oil, on this planet. Then they will move on, to higher technology. This is a universal, crime, in which man kind, will surely pay.

If they weren't forced to drill in water over a mile deep this would have never happend. The only ones to blame for this oil leak are environmental activists. You know tree huggers and whale humpers

Yes we should drill for oil as long as we need it, but we should not do deep water drilling because the problems that can arise are like doing brain surgery from four miles above the ocean floor.
