30 days notice to landlord

I currently rent a apartment with a roommate, we have a month to month lease with the landlord. I want to give my landlord a 30 day notice that I will be moving out and that I am requesting my half of the security. My roommate will NOT be moving with me to the new apartment. I am not sure what or where she is going.I want to make sure that I do not leave anything out that will prevent me from moving or losing my security deposit. What and how would I write in my letter to the landlord to make sure I am totally covered.
