How much or what is the highest that a landlord can raise your rent

I am currently am paying for rent 650.00 per month . I pay for my own utilities. My rent is always on time. My bathtub has been clog an numerous times of calling the landlord I gotten nowhere.
All of a sudden he came to pick up the 650.00 rent for the month ,and had said that next month the rent will be 900.00 per month is that legal to charge us 250.00 extra . Please advise I live in Chicago ILL.

If you are under lease for $650.00 he cannot raise the rent. He has to give you written notice that the rent will be going up at least thirty day notice. He can ask what he wants but you sure don't have to pay it. So I would just move because if he gets away with this with you he may try it with others. He doesn't seem to want to fix anything.
