If our house that we are renting is forclosing and the owner says it has been taken care of can we refuse to pay the rent until he shows us the proof of this? We live in Arizona.

We are living in this house and we signed a years lease and we have only lived in the house for 6 months. Only living in the house for 2 wks. we had a forclosure notice on the door, it was taken care of. Just one wk ago we recieved another forclosure notice on the door and they said it was taken care of. But they have not showed us proof. This notice is from a different bank and so I am thinking that they have 2 mortgages on this house. What can we do legally and still stay within our lease?

You can go to the hall of records and see if there is a default or forclosure on this property! It is public record! Then go from there! Depending on what state you live in, I believe once the house is in forclosure your contract with the ex-owner is void! They can't charge you for something they don't own! Try talking to someone legal to make sure though. I was in the same situation as you and I did the same thing you are doing and the ex-owners couldn't come after me! I was rent free and Hud also payed me a few thousand to move out 9 months later!
