My ex-husband removed my name from title but not from mortgage and his nonpayment is affecting my credit

I am divorced. At the time of divorce, my ex-husband kept the house and I signed a quick deed to release my name from the title. I also thought my name would be removed from the mortage. Now, 5 years after the divorce, my exhusban filed for bamkruptcy and is behin 18,000.00 which relfects on my credit. I called everhome mortgage to let them know the matter and that I could produce the divorce decree as proof. They will not accept that nor will they re-finance me. My credit is ruined due to the above reflecting on my report and it seems no one can help me. My ex-husband wants me to refinance and give him money so he can buy a condo and he will sign off on the title. I am a good paying citizen and I can't clear my good name and no one wants to refinance me. What should I do? I can afford a mortgage loan. the house is in texas and the mortgage company in florida, everhome mortgage. what do I do? this is a nightmare!

You might be out of luck. The creditor's know that your name is on the mortgage and you are legally bound to repay it. It is no different then co-signing a loan for a friend for a car and then have them not make the payments.

In hind sight, you should have refinanced the house out of your name 5 years ago. At this point, you just have to make the best of it. if anything, take him to small claims court to try and get some money out of him.

sorry this had to happen to you

A Divorce decree is only a contract between you and your ex.. no one has to honor this . You can file a petition with the original divorce Judge and get the matter cleared up. But it wil be up to you to get it cleared off your credit. You can however have your divorce decree posted to your credit repot.
