Oh! I just heard this great story that says yes - mind over matter.
There was this rail yard worker named Ken and he was a total pessimist. The kind of guy that always expected the worst out of things.
One day he was working on a refrigerated car and the door slammed shut, locking him inside. Everyone else went home for the day, and so no one could hear his cries for help. He knew that the refrigerated cars stayed at about 20 degrees and that he would die of hypothermia in his tshirt and jeans.
He yelled and yelled, but no one hear. Sure enough his body started to shiver uncontrollably and he found a piece of cardboard to scribble his last words to his wife and kids.
The next morning, other workers came in and found Ken had died in the car. The ME's report confirmed that he had died of hypothermia.
Here's the kicker - the other workers found out that the box car's refrigeration system was broken and that the temperature in the box car never got below 65 degrees when Ken froze to death.
Ken had convinced himself that he was freezing to death and he did.

I will leave the psychology part of this answer up to our dear Jodi-Mesa. But I will answer you from a medical stand point. Let's start with why there are warnings on the rides. They don't want you to ride if you have a heart condition, why you, well when you get frightened, or excited, your bodie releases Adrenaline. What does this do you ask, Adrenaline is just one of our body's ways of coping with something we couldn't otherwise cope with, it speeds up the heart allowing for oxygen to be sent to the muscles, it blocks the brains pain receptors, and so much more. So not only can a heart patient be triggered into a heart attack under this type of stress, but it's likely they won't feel it until it is to late. There has never been any proof that healthy person was ever scared to death by a rollercoaster. As long as you are healthy, you will be find, some people even get "addicted" to the adrenaline rush marathone runners are a good example of that. (Don't worry you won't need rehab)
Have fun ;))
