What do I need to do to successfully embroider on flannel backed PVC?

I would like to embroider a 35mm high name on a flannel backed PVC grill cover. I am concerned about perferation of the PVC. I am thinking about an iron on interfacing then a cut away stabilizer with a sharp needle. Please direct me in the most successful direction.
