I would say when you've reached all the goals that you have set out to accomplish whether it be having kids, landing a dream job, or buying the home you've always wanted.

There are three principles that I have found very helpful in finding contentment. They are as follows:

1) Maintain a realistic view - we must maintain a realistic view of our own limitations and those of others.

2) Recognize that things take time - have you noticed, though, how difficult it is to remain contented when something you are waiting for seems to take longer than expected or when an unpleasant situation seems to drag on longer than you had anticipated?

3) Do not compare-set reasonable goals - you are an individual. There is no one exactly like you. A saying in the African Gun language expresses this fact simply: “The fingers are not all of the same length.” It would be folly to compare any one finger with another.

I think that at the point you no longer have to ask the question, when are you contented, is when you have reached the state of contentment.

Great question! Hopefully being content isn't about reaching a certain place in life for you. If you want to feel happiness, you have to bring happiness with you to your life circumstances, not search life for this illusive feeling. You should stop and feel content along the way...and then you'll attract more things into your life that help you feel good. Spend 2 mins. each morning before you get out of bed ruminating in all the good things in your life....it will help you feel content in the moment and attract more happy moments into your day!

I think that when you feel content with your life is when you feel like nothing is missing; when you feel complete. When you don't want to change yourself or what you have and you see the beauty and good in everything. It is when you are at peace with yourself and with the world around you.

The adage "there is no 'there' there," applies here. Life is a process, an ongoing relationship between you, the people, circumstances and choices you'll run into along the way. So it's all in the moment, like right NOW, that is important. Don't wait for a sudden shift into okayness...life doesn't work that way...But, on a practical note, here's a good secret: you'll be most content when you learn how to focus more on others than on yourself, when you choose to give more often than you get...is when you'll actually be getting more than you've given. :-)

Actually only you can answer that question, but here are some things to think about. If you think about yourself as one whole unit made up of different parts, you will see that different parts of yourself (mind, body and soul) have different needs at all times. I believe that all of these parts require attention throughout our lifetime. So to accept that concept and realize that your goal is to be content, then you may be able to discover that you are already content with the idea that our lives are works in progress from birth to death.

Define what it means to you to be content. Can you draw up a list of the things in your life that are going well? Can you accept that being content requires some work (like a relationship requires tending to)? We are all on a journey and each one of us holds the key in determining if we will choose to be content or not.
