My ex boyfriend bought me a motorcycle

My ex bought me a motorcycle a year ago and now wants me to pay him for it. I paid for my ins every month as well as my tags, the bike is in my name. I also added $10,000 in accessories with my own money. Does he have any grounds to try to get it back or make me pay for it?

You state the bike is in your name? Does that mean the title and registration shows you as owner or is his name on the title and registration? If your name is on the title with no lienholder, it's yours to do with as you please. If there's a lienholder it's theirs and if he stops paying, they can repo the bike. Check with DMV to ascertain who has title if you can't and make sure he never borrowed against the title before you two went your ways.

Ok.. the bike is in your name so you are safe! No, he can not ask you to pay for it.

If he were to take you to court, the judge would ask "Why now". In other words, your ex has paid for the bike the whole time and NOW wants you to pay? Why...? Because you broke up? Too bad.

Your ex can not buy or pay for something for someone while you are together, and then when you break up ask you to pay for it. Any judge will throw that out.

The bike is yours! You insure it, you have even customized it by spending 10,000. on it which means you have interest in it and it was obviously yours since your ex didnt object to you customizing it.

If it is in your name, you insure it, you pay the tags... IT IS YOURS! :) If your ex takes it, call the police, report it stolen since it is registered to you. If your ex wants to take you to court, take the title and registration with you and show that it belongs to you...who paid for it is irrelevant at this point.

Using the info given I have to believe that the bike is not in your name. If it's not in you name then here is where i believe we stand. Paying insurance and state taxes does not show ownership. Any accessories that you added play no role in the ownership of the bike. When i was 16 I drove my dads truck alot and i added a stereo but, in the end it was always his truck and I was just enjoying it. I believe that we have the same situation here. But, states have different laws i would go consult a real lawyer not online and take whatever papers you have.

As long as there was no agreement, usually only admissible in writing that you would pay him back for the bike, then you won't have to pay a cent to him for the bike. It was considered a gift, and I'm pretty sure he didn't make you agree that you would have to pay him back for it when he gave it to you.

If he does take you to court, just make sure that you bring in proof that its in your name, along with receipts of payments made for it, and improvements you did with it. Also, make it very clear to the judge that this was a gift, not a loan or anything else that you agreed to pay him back for. I'm pretty sure you won't have much of a problem winning this case, if it comes to that.

If its in your name there is no way he can take it away from you or ask you to pay for it.

If what u say is correct, sorry boyfriend and thank you exboyfriend, girl this is yours is up to you what u want to do,but if i was you ,you would say to him stop being an indian giver and if he keeps it up transfer the bike to a trusting person if you dont owe anything on the bike and that will be that. This would teach your ex a lesson and you would have learn one two,i am a bike rider myself and if you put all that bling on the bike no one should be claiming because we broke up get it!
