Custody & child support if a parent leaves?

My husband and i have 50/50 custody of his 2 sons. However we still pay child support. The mother is thinking of joining the military. if so training is about 6 months. then we'd have them 100% of the time. what would happen with child support and custody after the fact?

Based on your description of the situation the mother has primary custody awarded by the court with her and your husband sharing joint custody. Depending on the amount of child support your husband pays and the amount of time that the mother will be in training it may be worth it for you to go back to court to have the child support payments stopped while the mother is in training. You may also at that time have the judge look to see if based on the mothers new income and benefits(i.e. free medical, tax-free housing allowance) whether the amount payed by your husband after the mother gets out of training should be lowered and if your husband is currently carrying the children on his health insurance whether the mother should carry them instead.
