Its too easy, it was frown upon in earlier days and should be now, its too easy for people to say they want to get married, i think a lot of people don't fully believe in the vows they take or the promise they make to each other.

I am getting married at the end of August this year and I couldn't love a man more than I do my partner and I will do all in my power to give it 100% and be true to him.

Alot of people can't commit to one person, the grass isn't always greener on the other side!

Divorce spreads like a virus, believe it or not. Studies have shown how divorce happens in social clusters: A single divorce within a social circle affects the relationships within the circle. Within a year, several members of the circle are filing for divorce as well. Apparently, shunning people who get divorced acts as a social quarantine against becoming divorced yourself.

Infidelity, lack of communication and many other things are the cause for divorce. Many people used to live in their marriage, whether happy or not, it was unacceptable to divorce in the old days, so many didnt. Now that it is more acceptable, people divorce like it's nothing.

I have did complex research on this topic. It is not easy to answer questions like this, in a short and sweet way. There are many reasons, enough to write a book on. I will attempt to pin down the most important reasons. Unrealistic expectations is a big one, not the one I am looking for in my head right now, it will come to me. Anyway, nowadays two people come into marriage with unrealistic exceptions. These come from the media in some respect. Especially when it comes to women, they have grown up in an age of princesses and fairy lands all over the t.v. So this is grilled into their brains, the media advertisers know this, and they use it in the multi-billion dollar advertising industry. So basically they know if they show a toy on tv enough when the child goes into the store he or she will ask for it. The same goes with kid movies, not intentionally however, it is an unforeseen consequence. Little girls grow up with totally unrealistic expectations of how marriage and proposal should be. Thus they turn out to be unhappy really quickly after marriage, it is somewhat drilled into the subconscious mind. Enough with that however now I will go a little more complex.

In 1950 the divorce rate in America was roughly 20%, in the 1960's it started to rise unprecedentedly. The question is what happened from the 50's to the 60's. Several things, first and foremost the first signs of the feminist movements began. As well the war on drugs, as well the hippie movement, as well a surge in the corporate power. Big industry saw the sixties, and began to think that America no longer supported their agenda, so they began to make radical changes. Now to pin down what happened. It was a collection of events that led to the current divorce rate. A change in the averages citizens mentality, and drug use.

Starting in the sixties the famous key parties, and other events that really drove sexuality started to really emerge within the general population. This alone helped create a mentality that really parallels ancient Rome. Orgies and hard core porn as well really started to emerge within the population. Which brings me to cheating. (I know I am all over the place here, to cover everything would take hundreds of pages of writing, so I am briefly covering everything as it relates) With the introduction of the vcr men started seeing porno, this as fairies and princess led girls to unrealistic expectations, porn led men into unrealistic expectations as well.
Women and the work place, for decades before the sixties women had one role, while their are little anomalies like WWII where women did work it was not expected in such a way as it was with the womens movement. This movement changed everything in the past women did not have that strive for independence, even the ones who did, had no support. It was common practice to just rely on the man for everything. When this mentality went out the window, women had a big voice. Prior to the 60's men would beat their wives and the women had no choice but to stay. Even the police would cover such things up, for the man. It was looked at like the women was always at fault. This mentality is still within men, as I hear stories all the time of crazy men, beating and controlling their wives, because they have been convinced that the women is submissive where the man is the dominant. Where do the men get it, it was passed down from those older generations. Now a women for the most part, (self esteem issues complicate this fact) will not deal with this attitude from a male. We are at a really interesting time in history, as old ideas start to fade, and new ideas start to take root, the divorce rate will start to balance out again, and should start to improve in the next several decades to come. However right now all this technology and fantasy and freedom for all, is still relatively new. I really just briefly touched on several other reasons, like the 60's movement and the hippies where marriage was thought as taking away freedom, love was for all, not just one person. It was a common practice which arose from the movement for little villages to form where they all were sexually involved and marriage was more a hindrance to freedom. So many other reasons, however this answer is running really long right now. Glad to help you, I did a big paper on this topic in sociology class.
