What rights does a man have to a child if he never signed the birth certificate?

I was trying to find out information on what rights my son's father has. He isn't on the birth certificate but at the child support case he agreed that my son is his so he is paying child support. What rights does he have?

If he has admitted being the child father and is taking responsibility for him then he should have the same rights as you do unless he has issues that would put your son in some horrible situation. When you went for your hearing, had a DNA test been performed? I would assume that with him proving that he is the childs father that he will be able to request to have a corrected birth certificate issued. If this man is a good man, then you are blessed that he wants to participate in your son's life. Being a single parent is very difficult.

There was never a dna test performed. He just agreed to the statement that the child is his. And even though he is court ordered to pay child support, he is by no means a good role model or provider for this child. Child support means nothing to him.

Same rights any father has..if he is taking responsibility for his child and he is not deniying the child and paying you child support he has all the rights to be involve with his child and have a father-son relationship.. it is up to you to decide wether or not he is allowed to be in his childs life.. and if he really wants to be involve in his child life and you do not allow him then it will be the courts decision..also remember your child will one day grow up and most likely resent you for keeing him away from his father... think of the child.

If you two were never married then unless he goes to court and requests visitation or custody, he cannot take the child unless you allow him to. He has no right to demand anything unless he makes those steps. Should he try to take the child with no legal custody or visitation in place, he would be guilty of kidnapping and any police department would back you. Good luck and best wishes.
