Can scaring a baby awake harm him?

My grandson is 3 months old and his father thinks its a hoot to scare him to wake him up. Can this cause any harm to the baby? He growls really really loudly to wake him...of course he wakes screaming. The man is an isiot.

Not to mention nerve damage.
Tell him to stop, it's really not funny.
Why dont you wait for him to fall asleep (the idiot) and find a really freaky way to wake him....
Where is MMA_MOM, she will give you ideas on how to scare the hell out of him (the idiot).
Maybe it will teach him a lesson.

Yes it is dangerous, and unhealthy. In addition the baby will grow to fear the dad, and not trust him.
Since LissaC put me up on the block :-)
I would suggest scaring him awake and show him how it feels. Personally i would start by waiting until he is completely sleeping then put a pillow over his face, pressing hard - don't actually kill him, but enough to 'scare him awake'.
Don't stop there, next night, when he is asleep, get a tube sock (creating distance in case he is a swinger) - put a tennis ball in it - whack the heck out of him...
If you need more idea's just let me know - I have plenty.
Keep scaring him awake until he is very very angry and insists he get's the point and you can stop (and he has huge bags under his eyes from lack of sleep) - wait a couple nights, then do it again! MAKE him get the point that it is very mean and unacceptable.

I belive it could cause trust issues as the baby gets older. You should start wakeing him like that and see how he likes it.

This is not healthy for the baby mental and physically.

Mental the baby will have a fear of sleeping, nightmares etc which will get worse and continue with age. Also the baby will start fearing the father as he will contect the fathers image with the fear of being scared away.

physically when you scare someone especially a child it causes their heart rate to jump to unsafe levels.

Yes this is a form of child abuse! any type of behavior that can harm the child mentally is a form of child abuse! Not only that but he will put this child in fear of him as well as fear of going to sleep! The child will eventually not want to go to sleep because of the fear of being awakened in such a vile and rude manner! How would your son inlaw like to be awoken this way everyday! I've worked in earlychildhood education for 20 years and I can assure you this is a form of child abuse!l
