How to get kids to share with cousins that want to take somethin home every visit?

Now when the cousin's come over the kids don't want to share .
cause they are afraid they are going to take it home .. age's 6,7, 4
what to do this has been going on sometime so I try to put up stuff before hand so it won't be a fight ..but I feel bad for doing this .. and my husband says that our kids have too much and are spoiled and greedy ... But , I don't feel that way I feel that my kids let them take for so long.

Try letting the cousins take something of your huspand's away and then see how generous he feels. I'm sure he'll have a few of his own 'toys' laying around not being used. Would you allow adults to go through your things and then give in to them wanting to take stuff home?

We do tend to use those excuses as 'too many toys' and 'they're not being used/played with any more' but it is wrong to give away something that belongs to your kid. Let them make the decision then respect it.

Are the cousins just as generous and sharing? These things are often one sided.

When the cousins come I would allow them to play with whatever is available and out to play with. If there is something special, delicate, breakable, put it away in advance.

When the chldren are finished playing tell them it is time to 'clean up' and that all toys go in their respective places so that they will be available for play the next time the cousins come over.

If you get a fight from the cousins gently remove (PRY) the toy from their hands and say, "No Louis, this toy belongs to Johnny and we will have it here for you to play with next time. It lives here and here it has to stay."

Your kids wil love you for being an advocate for them.
