What are my rights as a grandparent in North Carolina?

My grandson, who is 14, lives in the same town as I do. His mother is very restrictive on my visits with him. My grandson would rather spend time with me and would even prefer to live with me. His mother is jealous of our relationship and would prefer that we never see each other. What are my rights as a grandparent in North Carolina? What are my rights and his rights if he were to choose to live with me?

In general there is no "grandparents rights" law in NC, however you can file for custody of the child and because of the age of the child and you have established a relationship with the child they could award you custody and or order that you can maintain a relationship with the child but to file for visitation as a grand parent unfortunatly you don't have much to back you up.
