Hi,
You are referring to the "Appendix"!
It is a vestigeal organ in humans, as it used to be used for digesting high cellulose diet when ancestros of humans used to eat leaves of tress as herbivores.

In present day humans, like the coccyx (tail bone) it is largely of vestigeal importance. If gone bad it gives a serious case of Appendicitis, and when burst, it leads to death from peritonitis or internal infection and inflammation of the body lining called the pertonium.

regards,
Jayen

It's where the stomach connects to the small intestine.

Hi,

This is just to clarify, and NOT to needle anyone.

ADeadCorpse, you are referring to the Duodenum. And it is far from vestigeal!
The duodenum is largely responsible for the breakdown of food in the small intestine, using enzymes.
This is very much of use! Afterall the food passes through it daily.

Well the vestigeal part of human digestive system are caecum and vermiform apendix which are located at the junction of smallintestine and large intestine.Caecum plays no role in digestion of food and hence is considered as vestigeal. There are finger like projections arising from the caecum which are know as vermiform apeendix or appendix in general terms.Appendix was earlier used by humans during the period of evolution for digestion of cellulose, a major constituent of leaves, the main source of nutrition then but is no longer in use for man.It causes a disease called 'Appendictis'
