If the large asteroid hit solid land it wouldn't matter where it hit, the result would be an enormous cloud of dust that would encircle the Earth, cut out the sunlight and cause a situation much like the one that killed off the dinosaurs because the sun could not shine through the dust cloud and most of the vegetation on Earth died or went dormant. Not a good prospect. Maybe you should start a business that will develop an asteroid repellant.

Well, on a positive note for the earth, humans wouldn't be around any longer to slowly kill off every living thing on the planet. Of course, that would do the same thing that idsch mentioned above. In 30 million years or so, the earth would have a new age and 250 million years ago, palentolgoists would be looking the the remains of some interesting fossile structures left way back in the age of humanoids.
