Opinions?

Curious to see what people are thinking about this.
Whats funny is:
1. If this is really a threat why aren't we hearing more about it?
2. If it's a US satellite how come we don't know whats in it? It says there "could" be a dangerous substance inside, but we aren't sure...
3. Why the hell did we launch a satellite that may have something that could kill people orbiting our freaking planet? Oh Yeah, I remember...
4. Why doesn't the government just ask the aliens that they keep hideing from us to help?

We actually know what is in the satellite that is harmful - hydrazine rocket fuel. While the chances of it coming down intact and actually doing damage is pretty minor, the US Government in its infinite wisdom has decided there's enough of a chance that it will try to bring it down over somewhere safe - like the Pacific (sorry Fiji). Of course, that's pissed the Chinese off (who were the first to shoot down a missle and added significantly to the debris field in orbit) and now they are warning against security threats and militarization of space.

Why haven't we heard more about it? See threads in here on role models such as Spears and Hilton. We're Americans and for the most part, most of us don't care unless it's covered in US or People.

Why did we launch it something with a dangerous substance - because we Americans like lower taxes or services. Since this is a spy satellite, we went with the lowest bidded contract.

As for the Aliens, I suspec they are just watching, laughing and saying We Told You So. Someone also probably won a few space bucks in the UFO's betting pool.

Maybe... if we're lucky... it will land on Paris Hilton's head.

Geez, did I really say that?

But I like to read about the latest news and events of Britney Spears. Last I heard she was planning a world tour for her last album, black out.

about the satellite. is it really big enough they think it will come down in one piece and not burn up on re-entry? so is it a manned (or was it manned), what the hell were they using it for? and why is our government so scared about where it might fall? what is on it that is so important?

It was unmanned. It was an intel satellite used for taking hi res pics of places people don't want the US to see. They don't think it would make it to earth in once piece but they don't want to take a chance. The'll shoot it so that it's orbit decays over the pacific.

I'd laugh mightily if it fell on Paris, Britney or Lindsay.

You seem to know alot about the satellite mtnrescue, and you do live in Colorado Springs, CO. hmmmm

Me thinks you know a little to much about this satellite.

You guys crack me up.
Lets just hope N Korea doesn't take our actions as an act of war... lolol
Luckily it's only a 3 hour drive to the Springs for me - I hope Mtnrescue has room for us in Cheyenne Mountain - do you want our reservations now, or when the time gets closer? Do you need a deposit?

Hey, I don't live in the Springs - just South Denver (and not south of Hampden - can't do that). Satellites are fun. Actually, I feel like King Arthur and the swallows knowing about them. But, I did use alot of satellites to bounch TV signals all over the earth when I was starting TV stations all over the globe. Actually, if you want to know where most of our TV signals are broadcast from, go down to the big satellite dish farm on South Santa Fee (south of E470). Something like 90% of TV signals in the US uplink from there.

I don't believe you, if you were really from Denver you'd know that Santa Fe and E-470 never cross. Santa Fe does however cross C-470. :P

Also, as of like this week, both Echo Star and Direct TV are both run from Douglas county.
