X-rays are high band radiation, usually emitted by black holes. They are emitted by electrons during a high state of excitation, versus gamma rays which are emitted by the nucleus of an atom. They are instrumental in discovering black holes, as well as measuring their energy output.

Other stellar objects can emit X-rays as well, such as neutron stars. or other compact stellar bodies.
