Traditionally, it's been a source of food. From an asthetic point of view, some people seem to think that it harkens back to the days we all came out of the primordial soup. Others claim the energy that comes from the waves crashing against the shore. With the amount of plankton generating oxygen, I suppose you could also be feeling more energized with a higher oxygen concentration. Personally, I'm from the mountains and I get more from being in the mountains that at the ocean, though I like being by the ocean as well.
