I need to win the NC lottery. Unfortunately for you, my chances of winning the NC lottery are better than your chance of finding a laptop computer for $25 that actually works. You must be one of those people who thinks all computer software should be free too.
OK, so that sounds a bit cruel and cold. Well, it happens to be a cruel and cold world. Just ask any Iraqi.
Do you have any marketeable skills? If you do, you might try swapping for somebody's used computer. For example, I have a used laptop to swap for a collection of well-drawn illustrations I can use in three or four upcoming books. If you actually could work to earn a notebook computer, put up some notices on the local college and supermarket and library bulletin boards stating you will type, or cook, or read to blind people or something of that nature to earn a used notebook.
You never know . . .
By the way, if you actually do know a fledgling artist who is GOOD at illustrations of people, I have a laptop to swap. I'd even spring for a new battery for it. Interested artists can use the contact form at www.drleons.com to discuss the offer.
