I shop at a store that only will give a discount to customers 55 and older on Wednesdays. I feel it is discrimination because I am only 40 and cannot receive the discount just because of my age

Yes, this is a private company promotion (which many companies do). There are promotions for Veterans, Seniors, etc.

Most places do senior discounts. This practice has been around a long time and is not illegal or considered discrimination. There are lots of different discount types, some places dicount military, police, and or firemen. Others give a plaza discount to anyone who works with in the plaza.

If you shop their regularly ask them if they have a discount plan in place that fits you. A regular customer discount, or a punch card for each item purchased, or for purchases over a certain amount.

Are you going to argue with the stores and what they want to offer the elderly?

Before I became one of those "elderly" people getting all the discounts, it used to upset me too. But when I found a place giving the "senior" discount I always asked "politely" when they were going to have a special or a sale for people my age, or men my height, or teens wearing green shirts, etc. Sometimes the businesses actually did it because I suggested it. The whole idea though is to keep a good attitude about it all. If you don't you'll go completely insane over all the good parking places reserved for handicapped people. See . . . there is a benefit to getting old....er.
