Merchandise marked incorrectly

I recently went to purchase a pair of pants and they had been priced wrong, the sales girl told me she could not give them to me at that price is it not the law to give the ticketed price?

Many stores will honor the sticker price (and then pull the rest of the merchandise to fix the stickers) but that is a matter of customer service or store policy, and not the law. I do not know of any laws that require vendors to honor the sticker price on their products.

When a store has these sorts of problems, the situation is normally resolved when the slighted customer decides never to shop there again. That's what you should do. If you feel you were improperly treated, do your shopping elsewhere.

Just so you know; the reason stores are more apt to accept the price in their automated system instead of the price sticker on the product is because of the high incidence of customers switching price tags on merchandise.

The next time this happens to you; ask to see the store manager and when he or she talks to you, request they check to make sure the correct price of the item was entered into the store's automated system. Sometimes mistakes are made.

I think it depends. if a piece of clothing was in the wrong section then no, they don't usually honour it.

but if a store employee intentionally marked a whole section of items for sale, even if it was a mistake, they often would give that person a discount for whatever that sale price was.

My mom has had it happen to her numerous times where the store mis-marked a section of items for sale when they shouldn't have.

I worked in a few jewelry stores over the years and if something was marked incorrectly we had to sell it at that price. I don't think the clerk ringing the sale was correct, she should have got the manager to make the decision. I think it varies from store to store the attorney general's office for your state will have the answer.
