Do you think the rich & famous like Tiger Woods owe it to society to be good role models?

Tiger Woods who recently declared himself a billionaire has admitted to infidelity. Many people have looked up to him...young and old. He has profitted by our respect. Companies pay him big money because they know the public will respect his endorsement. This is how he became rich...sponsors reward his game and his endorsements. Did he owe us - the public - society...more than what has come to light?

I think Tiger Woods only owes it to his child to be a good role model. If corporate America is so stupid to pay Tiger Woods to endorse their products so stupid Americans will stupidly buy their stuff, then American society deserves Tiger Woods as a role model.

Are we really looking toward Tiger Woods to be our role model? A guy who hits a little ball with a little stick to get it into a little hole? What role is he holding up for us to emulate?

We should all grow up a bit and look inward to see who we really are and decide who we really want to be, for ourselves, for our families, for our nation and for our planet. Golfing is not going to get us there. We have let the media and our own lack of character drag us to where we are today.

He definitely bring himself in a place , no one can snatch from him, he proved he is no one, and obviously people like to become like him or any one who prove to be great, that's not any question about, he stay on media just for his achievements ,his winnings, millions know him, what else we need to prove

He really does not owe the rest of us anything, but I think he owed loyalty to his wife, and he should have been a positive role model for his children.

Tiger does not owe the public anything. I do not understand why anyone would be interested in what is happening in his personal life. It has absolutely nothing to do with us. The only people he owes anything to are his friends and family. It is none of our business how he deals with them.

Remember the cliche', (Tiger Woods) he puts his pants on one leg at a time like the rest of us. Tiger has proved that diligence and self discipline to his sport has payed off big time. Great attributes. Unfortunately, he hasn't applied those same characteristics in his personal life. I don't believe that he owes the general public anything-after all, he's just a man. Due to his immoral conduct, he may lose his sponsors. Only time will tell. As far as his family goes, he has done irreputable damage; He's now paying his wife to stay with him. So, the answer is no. I don't believe he "owes" society anything, but he sure has some other debts to pay.

To be rich and famous is to be without true morals. Because to have wealth and to be able to sustain wealth in a world that is inhabited with starving people dying without even adequate drinking water is to be without human compassion or generosity. In this world only a poor man can be the true role model. If not this world is doomed to greed and destruction. My role models are men like Gandhi and Jesus and Mohammad these men are who we should all aspire to be. Fame brings destruction of the soul only a humble man can truly deal with fame. Even Martin Luther King cheated on his wife, even the Kennedy's had skeletons in their closet, this comes with fame it is the price of fame. Yes these where all good men however their one true weakness was being rich or famous or both. However they were still great men whom we should all aspire to be however it is the one's before them who truly understood what life and being a role model was really about.

I appreciated the factSteve made that the rich and famous cannot TRULY be role models because they have to turn their backs on those who are starving and suffering. Those without worldly goods, like Jesus, caused many to aspire to his character. Tiger Woods and his wife purchased an island off the coast of her country. A getaway for her when times are tough. Other women with children during the tough times have nowhere to go and barely any food on the table. Great answer, Steve!!

I agree that the accumulation of wealth and power brings it's own reward--that of believing that one can hold his or her morals at bay and assume that one has the right to live one's life without regard to the consequences of one's actions. Unfortunately we see this all too often in our daily lives as our role models do not live up to our expectations of fairness, morality and empathy for others. Tiger Woods is no exception. His actions, whatever reasons, spoke volumes about his disregard to family, friends and supporters. Hopefully, he will learn from this and come out a better individual. I hope to see him again on the golf circuit, he was my idol--maybe he will be so in the future.

ZeeZee0, What a wonderful world that we live in when we can judge other people. I don't care who they are-rich or poor. Would you condemn a person on the street for being homeless? By the way, have you never committed a sin? Their are many people with money that are perfectly moral but still human. The only respect that you or I should have given Tiger is the respect for his dedication to the game. Any more credit for a human man(or in a woman for that matter) is crazy. Sponsers are about money. Many famous rich people have fallen. I am in know way condoning what he did. I think it is beyond forgiveness and what he has done to his family, in my opinion, can never erase their hurt or would they be able to reoncile. Having said that, it's none of our business!
