What makes a marriage legal is the marriage license you receive from the courthouse. If you have any question as to the authority of your minister to sign the state-issued license, check your local courthouse. If you still want this ex-minister to marry you, go ahead with the ceremony but then have someone at the courthouse authorized to marry you do it too. It only takes a few minutes at the courthouse and is normally free or only a few dollars.
