I agree with side - depends on what you believe. The idea of suicide has be perverted recently by these suicide bombers as that's not what the intent of the Koran is (just like the Spanish Inquistion wasn't the intent of the Bible) and you also saw the same thing from an honor standpoint for the Japanese in WWII. I think some of it also depends on what stage of life you are in and quality of the life you face. If someone is 85 and decides to head off into the woods rather than undergo radiation treatment and horrible sickness just to prolong their life by a few years after a long and happy one, why should that be looked upon as a sin?

All questions we will all face at some point in our lives either with ourselves or with loved ones.

Paraphrasing from this: http://www.behindthebadge.net/suicide/index-2.html

When a person contemplates suicide they are standing at a crossroads.

Down one road is living in pain & depression. Realize that God is sovereign and our days are ordained by Him alone. God does not want us to be depressed and in pain; He wants us to come to Him and ask for His help. Believe that He will help you overcome the pain.

Down the other road is death on your timing not God's, not caring what God wants. Believing that God won’t, or can’t help in this time of hurt and pain. This is a dangerous road.

Don’t let Satan fool you. God doesn’t want people to commit suicide, that's not why we're here.

Suicide is a perminant solution to a temporary situation.

Listen to meltdown. God loves you and the hard things in your life are there because there is a bigger plan. You may not be able to see what God has planned for you now and to cut off your life would be taking control away from God and saying you don't believe that he can fix everything. The Bible says it's a sin, but can it keep a believer out of heaven - absolutely not (Presbyterian beliefs at least - I'm not sure what catholics say about this)

It is amazing that 85% of all suicides are not successful .In Islam suicide is a very harsh sin that the person will forever be in the hellfire, also that act of death (suicide) will be repeat over and over in the hellfire.I do believe that there are many different faiths on this site ,therefore many comments will be widely stated.

There can be no correct answer as to whether or not "god" believes suicide is a sin. People have dreamt up too many gods with too many philosophies and conflicting answers and interpretations. You should look at the question from a more practical viewpoint. On the common sense level, suicide is just plain stupid. Consider your "god" neutral on the subject and make your own decision.

God himself is the giver and taker of life, not man! God has a plan for your life even though things seem dark and lonely. God is with you, just call out to him and he will help you through what ever it is that is hurting you. He loves you!

The Bible says in the book of Exodus, "Thou shalt not murder". It is one of the 10 commandments. Therefore, God considers murder a sin. Suicide is murdering yourself. The Bible is God's word or, it is the only book that claims to be God's word and has survived thousands of years of people trying to get rid of it. It also has not changed in all that time. No one can live without sinning. We all fall short of God's standards as set forth in the Bible. God is merciful and provides a resolution to sin. He sent His Son, Jesus to be our Savior. Jesus lived a perfect life, died on the cross to pay the price for our sins and rose again to live forever. The Bible says, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall have everlasting life." Have faith in Christ, accept Jesus into your life to be your personal Savior and Lord and you will be saved.
