Great question! I'm wondering how many others have listened to 'The Secret'.

I happened to like it, although it's been criticized for being another get rich easy, find true love & happiness scheme. The author presents the Secret in a way that makes it seem that anyone can be or do anything they want, live a perfect life through thoughts alone.

This is part is true: You need to set goals, have confidence, and expect to achieve them.

The part that 'The Secret' left out is the hard work that goes into realizing your goals. Asking the universe for riches, then sitting back and idly waiting for something is unrealistic.

Sure, it can happen. Some people do win the lottery, just don't count on it. Better to put the long hours and effort into realizing your goals.

A great answer! I actually feel that same way. A positive, can do attitude is the driving factor to success. My husband made a good point along the same lines that you mentioned with regard to asking the universe for our wishes. If 3 people all wanted the same thing, ie: the largest ruby in the world, only one of them could receive it!

I found some other interesting literature offered through Carole Baskin of the Big Cat Rescue that I beleive offers a little more detail to this approach in that each experience in life is an opportunity utilize it as a stepping stone to better our lives as well as others. 'The Science of Getting Rich' by Wallace D. Wattles. Interesting approach.

Thanks for your input surferbrad :)

You should have left this question open for a while, since I think there are so many people that would have great input into this question.

My thoughts on the secret is that it isn't anything new or ground breaking.

Jerry and Ester Hicks have been talking about the law of attraction for years. And how long has people like Wayne Dyer and Tony Robbins said something along the lines of

You become what you think about

You attract into your life what you think about

or any variation on that.

What the secret did is bring alot of this thoughts and ideas into the mass market via viral content. They had like no budget for this and it was all pretty much spread via word of mouth.

My thoughts on what the secret teaches is very valid, the whole attraction into your life of what you think about consistently. You are always attracting and thinking something and you are doing it wither you know it or not. So why not create the life of your dreams and attract into your life everything that you want to manifest.

So start with something small, like attracting that you will hit all green lights on the way to work, or a spot up close at starbucks (or even a specific spot in the parking lot that will be open when you get there)

Thanks sidelko! I was surprised more folks had not responded until now. You've also offered great input on the subject. I do think that these teachings are a great reminder to all of us that negative thinking gets us nowhere and positive thinking opens the doors to all kinds of possibilities.

Thanks again for your input :)

Not everyone checks every category every day, and sometimes it takes a question hitting the home page before some one replies. If you look at the questions I asked in this spiritual category, they often have quite a few replies, but it took a while to get there. I plan on leaving them open always so everyone has a chance to chime in on those very open ended questions like what is the meaning of life.

Check out the new Louse Hays movie, you can heal your life. It has some of the aspects of The Secret plus some other good ideas that Louise Hays has written about. it is similar to the secret in how it was filmed, and also has Wayne Dyer and Jerry and Ester hicks in it.

Thanks for the info on the q&a process here. I'll also be sure to check out your suggested movie. I enjoyed the Secret so I'm certain that 'you can heal your life' will be equally inspiring :)

It is what started out as a movie about the law of attraction. and has sense been turned into a book that is nearly word for word to what the movie says. And just recently there is a Secret branded gratitude journal that you can use to write what you are grateful for (part of the whole attraction process)

Also look into Jerry and Ester Hicks book The Law of Attraction (and similar ones). they channel in a being called Abraham that talks about the Law of Attraction and all sorts of similar subjects to that.

On a side note

If you get the 2 disc version of You can heal your life, and watch the Jerry and Ester Hicks part of the additional interviews on the 2nd disc. It starts out as Ester being herself, and like 5-10 minutes into it they decide to channel in Abraham, it only takes a few seconds, but you can tell right away that her vocal tones and language is 100% different.

I wonder if JZ Knight can channel in Ramtha that quickly?

I agree with sidelko, it's not that groundbreaking, even a lot of bible references in the Secret. It's a different spin on an old message. Great question Grandma!
