Hit with a softball

Was hit in the leg last friday, by a direct line drive hit. I am the pitcher so I was hit almost immediately after the ball came off the bat. I think the pain is getting stronger, day in and out. My leg is swollen below the injury sight, and at times it throbs, other times it almost seems to itch, or burn. The initial impact sight is almost as big as it was the day of the injury, but now my ankle has swelled not just on the inside but now later this week it has moved to the outside as well. Just wondering if an x-ray should be done, or wait another week to see how it looks then? Also I am 30 years old and of average weight, plus the injury was to my right leg directly on the shin bone. People in the audience said they heard a snap, but I do not recall this. Any help would be most apprecidated. Thank you

Please do not wait. You definately have a hematoma, no quesiton about it. My fear is a clot and infection though. Please get in asap, you need to have it examined for sure!

What color is the leg? Red, black, blue or combo of all three? Any swelling at the injury site, knots, knobs or nodules? Any numbness anywhere from hip to toe? Have you been walking on it with mild or severe pain? If the leg goes from red to black and blue it's a deep vein major bruise, if it goes from black and blue to black or purplish, you may have ruptured a vein but not an artery but time for the ER trip possible DVT (deep vein thrombosis - not good). Knots, knobs, bumps, etc are an indication of muscle, tissue and vein rupture - need to see doc as soon as possible. Numbness means a trip to the ER is needed now, tendon, nerves and water are strangulating each other. Severe pain means a fracture and again, go to the ER. If the ankle has swollen to where the skin looks shining and red, get to the ER tissue is drowning and you may need surgery.

When I walk it is tender, but still manageable. The injury sight is purple, white, and red. The skin is stretched from the swelling, which also makes it painful. It is very tender to the touch. I have had some tingling, but not much. There is a bump from where the ball hit me intially. It is hard and a purple color. My ankle is starting to turn purple on the inside and outside, and now it is starting to become tender. I wonder if this is from the swelling?
