I have a bad left knee. Is there something I can do to ease the pain when running?

I have tried adding more "hip" to my stroke, by rotating my hips into each stride. Seems to help take some of the shock off of my knee. I also wear a neoprene support brace. Any other suggestions? I love to run, but sometimes my knee won't let me run as much as I would like!

Maybe you are out of alignment. Have you tried doing any structural body work?

Pick up the book Pain Free by Pete Egoscue

Otherwise you could try wearing orthotics (which don't really fix the problem but is more of a band aid)

are you to tight? Maybe your hamstring or other muscles are so tight you are having to recruite other muscles to run, which is causing you all the pain you are experinceing.

I know personally about bad knees I was born with a birth defect that had to be straigtened out but they still ache from time to time and I am not a fan of running because it puts to much pressure on the knees.

I keep a bottle of advil around just in case there is swelling and a heating pad works well too.

Personally I decided that running was too much for my knees and I took up inline skating instead. It isn't nearly as hard on your knees as running is.

Thanks for the answer. Now that you mention it, I do have tightness in my hammy and I can fel it pull when I take steps, particularly longer strides. Thanks!

When you start studying biomechanics and how the body works, you'll find out that everything is connected.

I tight hamstring means it won't function right, so the rest of your body will have to use other muscles to do what the hamstring should be doing.

check out the pain free book, one of the best books you'll ever read.
