Do you have to type your 1099's

I have a few contractors that I need to send 1099's to. Do I have to type them or can they be hand written. If they have to be typed is there a way to make sure your computer lines up with the 1099's that I bought? Last question, I do not have a tax payer id number it is my social. Do I put that on all of the 1099's? Then everyone knows my social. Thanks, traci

I'm pretty sure that they have to be typed or done on the computer as well.

I've been audited twice and always hand write 1099's. The IRS has never told me they have to be typed.

As of right now, the IRS prefers a typed 1099, but there is nothing that prohibits you from submitting hand written 1099s.
