What do i do about the 1099misc forms that were returned to me by mail?

I mailed out more than 20 1099misc forms, 5 were returned to me. We have attempted to contact these people, but numbers are disconnected and others just aren't answering their phones. What do we do? Can we still claim them on our taxes?

If you have records and the cancelled checks you can claim them.

Yes, you can claim them. We have a business, too and quite often we're stuck with 1099s back in the mail; even w-2s. I just keep them in the envelopes proving they were returned to me andleave it at that.
