There are 2 qualifications to be able to deduct expenses as a day-car facility; (1) That you are in the trade of providing daycare on a regular basis (2) You have applied for, been granted or you are exempt from having a license. So you won't be able to claim expenses this year.
Here is the link to publication 17 which will outline what and how you can deduct as far as business expenses this year now that you are certified:
http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p17.pdf
Here is a quick list from me of things that would be pertinant to your situation:
Cleaning supplies for daycare, toys, cribs, training, blankets, milage when driving daycare children to and fro, accounting software, phone bill (only if that phone number is ONLY for business, not minutes off your personal phone, make sense?), food, supplies.
For your energy bill, you can write off a portion. So lets say that you have 10% of your house in the basement that is the day-care facility. You can write off 10% of your electricity/gas bill for the year.
Good luck and KEEP EVERY RECEIPT!!
