Claiming mother who lives with me on taxes

My mother passed away in June 2007, will I still be able to claim her on my taxes for 2007. I also am paying for her burial, is that deductable. This may seem cold, but I loved my mother very much, and having a hard time coping with her death. she died from copd, 8 long years of suffering. I am also having hard financial problems this past year.

I'm so sorry to hear about your mom - it's not heartless, you helped her by supporting her and the IRS will help you out for that.

Your mother is a "qualifying relative" since she lived with you for 1/2 the year, didn't provide more than 1/2 of her support and was disabled. Funeral and burial costs are not deductible unfortunately. This document lists it under the "not included" medical deductions (page 141):

Are you single? Do you have other children. I ask, because if you are single, you can file head of household which provides tax benefits over filing single.
