Claiming a Parent that lives with me as a dependent

My mother lives with my family and I rent free. She is 73 years old. We provide lodging, food, transportation and some medical care expenses for her. She does collect social security benefits and has no other income. Her benefit amount is approximately $12,000 annually ($1,000/month). Can my husband and I claim her as a dependent? Does her Social Security benefits have to be claims as a part of our income if we claim her as a dependent? Can any medical expenses paid be itemized on our tax return?
