Stimulus package rebates

If I will not receive $300 rebate for each of my 2 kids because they are older than 17, why don't they file as independent to get $600 each?

I realize I would lose them as dependents but they also go to college and did receive 1098-T ( in their names even though I paid the tuition) which boosts their refund.

I think that if they file taxes for last year and they made over $3,000 they will get at least a $300 stimulus refund check in may. Even if you claim them, they should get it because they are 18 or older and thus don't qualify as a child if you are claiming them.

if they made $3000 they will get a $300 check, if they made over that, they should get a refund check equal to their federal taxes up to $600
