I have included information from the IRS website about filing an extension. Just remember that you may extend filing but you cannot avoid payment if you owe taxes. Fortunately the IRS accepts payment plans. Like any other "loan" you will pay interest if you pay past the filing date due. http://www.irs.gov/app/understandingTaxes/hows/tax_tutorials/mod04/tt_ mod04_03.jsp

The IRS tax page has the extension form, I answered a similar question a while back, I believe the form is 4868.

For 4869 is the form you will need in order to file for a tax extension. For a link to form 4868 check the Irs.gov website below.
