Medical claims paid out of pocket

I had to have an emergency operation before my insurance ttok effect, and they have garnished my checks can I use the amounts garnished to help in my taxes as medical claims they are substancial in amount

You can deduct your medical expenses that are more than 7.5% of your income. That will lower your taxable income, but you can only use this if you itemize your taxes, instead of taking the standard deduction.

I had the same thing happen this year because I had a baby and found out after I was pregnant that my insurance didn't cover it. Good luck!!
