I don't know if it varies from state to state, but in Oklahoma, after your house has been sold at auction for one year's back property taxes, you will no longer receive notices from the tax assessor about your taxes. That information will go to the person that paid your taxes. They must pay the taxes on that property for two more years then, they can file for the deed to the property. Once they have filed, a notice must appear in the local newspaper about filing for the deed to the property. When they have gotten the deed, they own the property, out right, and will contact you about financial arrangements to either keep the property or move. You can stop it from going that far by contacting your tax assessor's office and find out who is the lein holder of your property, contact them and try to work something out with them. This just happend to me and the lein holder of my property didn't want to put me out of my house, he just wanted to make his money back. I think you will find that this is true of most people. I hope this helps. Good Luck!
